I have been ripping & burning DVDs for quite a while on my HTPC. It's always been fast before, except the ripping has always been a little slow (around 23 min) due to my drive's riplock.
I've always used DVD Shrink & DVD Decrypter with great success, even on my old PC. The other day, I installed DVDFab 7.0.3.0 and it brought the ripping & burning performance to a crawl... even in Shrink & Decrypter.
When something like this would happen in the old days, it was usually the DMA/PIO thing. But this is a SATA drive, not IDE. I'm 99.9% sure that the installing of DVDFab is the cause (since after months of being fast, the slow down occurred at the exact moment I installed DVDFab).
My HTPC is running XP-Pro 32 bit, it's not connected to the web (so no anti-virus, spyware scanners or firewalls), 3GB memory, 1GB 9600 video card, and the DVD burner is an LG 22x GH22LS30 with LightScribe. Oddly enough, the LightScribe hasn't slowed down any, it still takes about 18-20 minutes for a full label (which is what it's always been).
Any ideas about how to get back to the ripping/burning speeds that I had before?
